- The essay analyzes the significance and problems of an Optional Protocol to The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights. For more than sixty years the situation of the economic, social and cultural rights has been questioned. One of many rights, which have been marginalized since, is the right to food. The main purpose of this essay is to reflect some of the most essential problems with the right to food and also to include perspectives of important actors in this question. - The essay analyzes the significance and problems of an Optional Protocol to The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural rights. For more than sixty years the situation of the economic, social and cultural rights has been questioned. One of many rights, which have been marginalized since, is the right to food. The main purpose of this essay is to reflect some of the most essential problems with the right to food and also to include perspectives of important actors in this question. However, Sweden is one of many states that has not signed or ratified the Optional Protocol, they believe that it is not the best way to achieve the economic, social and cultural rights. While other actors are certain that the right to food can only be realized with the Optional Protocol including a individual and group international complaints mechanism to adjudicate the economic, social and cultural rights. The hunger that exists continues to increase, while all the actors, like Foodfirst Information & Action Network, Amnesty International, Economic and Social Council and Sweden agrees that it must come to an end. Although, they do not agree which approach is the most applicable and effective. (Less)
