Abstract
This essay seeks to critically examine the differences in perception of women and men who pay for sexual experiences abroad. It is a discourse analyses that investigates the similarities and differences between the female and male sex industry. The main focus of this essay is to examine the language that is being used to describe the female sex tourists that travel abroad to engage in sexual relationships with younger men. And in which ways the sex tourism industry is being affected by different books, TV – shows and movies that are being presented to us in our daily life. This essay seeks to critically examine the differences in perception of women and men who pay for sexual experiences abroad. It is a discourse analyses that investigates the similarities and differences between the female and male sex industry. The main focus of this essay is to examine the language that is being used to describe the female sex tourists that travel abroad to engage in sexual relationships with younger men. And in which ways the sex tourism industry is being affected by different books, TV – shows and movies that are being presented to us in our daily life. With the conclusion that the contradictory way people talk about stereotypes and traditional gender roles have some affect on how the female sex buyers are being portrayed as a “romance – tourist” instead of a “sex – tourist”. This expression do not sound as severe as being an actual “sex – tourist” and it almost have some of a positive tone, which makes it more difficult to investigate whether the men who works at the beaches and hotels are being victims of prostitution or not.
