The methodology used in this essay is qualitative interviews and document review. The study is based on six interviews and two informal interviews. The result shows that soft skills are a concept that can be explained in many words. The desirable soft skills mentioned as important for a field service engineer is for example the ability to communicate, collaborate, be customer oriented, responsive and empathic. The findings show that soft skills can be hard to learn. Nevertheless the findings show that it can be done a lot easier if the managers are aware of the concept and meaning of soft skills and are supporting and encouraging the employees. The field service engineers also need to have an understanding of the concept and meaning of their task to be able to develop their soft skills. One way of developing soft skills is to learn from others and from your own experience through reflection and feedback from your managers and colleagues. Action Learning and role play are other ways to develop your soft skills. (Less)
