Tillgänglighet med cykel - Studie av tre cykelstråk i Helsingborg

Abstract
An accessible bicycle-network is a prerequisite to get people start cycling. Increased cycling conduces to a sustainable society with better environment, human health and a more pleasant street environment with reduced congestion. Prioritisation of cycle-routes must be widespread. Just one high quality cycling-line is not enough; the whole bicycle-network needs to carry out high standards. To increase the cycling-quota the entire trip must run smoothly. The purpose of this thesis is to find out what influences the accessibility of bicycle and what the accessibility looks like in the cycling-network of Helsingborg today (2012). To increase the cycling-quota the entire trip must run smoothly. The purpose of this thesis is to find out what influences the accessibility of bicycle and what the accessibility looks like in the cycling-network of Helsingborg today (2012). This process is based on “Sign up for the bike” which is a design manual written by the Dutch organization C.R.O.W. We also used the Swedish design manual TRAST. Together these documents describe both general and specific factors that affect the accessibility of bicycle-network. The accessibility for cyclists depends on coherence, directness, comfort, attractiveness, safety, operation and maintenance and bicycle parking. We did a functional analysis of three of the main roads in the cycling-network in Helsingborg to get a general picture of the accessibility with bicycle. We went cycling along the cycling-routes a couple of times to find elements who affects the accessibility in both positive and negative ways. We measured the rate and made profiles of velocity to show the location of the delays. We also did a questionnaire survey to get the communities opinions of the cycling situation in Helsingborg. The questionnaire survey also asks for which factors that’s needed to achieve an accessible bicycle-network. The community values safety, good operation and maintenance, good bicycle-parking facilities and smooth surface (effects comfort) as the most important factors for accessibility in the cycling-network. The community regards grade-separated junction as the most efficient for the accessibility and that junction controlled by stop-line, give-way or the rule of give-way for the drivers from the right has low function and is considered insecure. Through the results from the investigations we concluded that the accessibility in Helsingborg meet demand except from a few deficient designed intersections, narrow bicycle-routes, indistinct signs and defective bicycle-parking facilities.
