- Abstract
- I have worked as a percussion teacher in many different contexts during my time as a student at the Malmö Academy of Music but before that as well. Because of this I have had the privilege of meeting many different students at many different schools. It is however the students from one particular school that stood out from the rest when it comes to the students' motivation. This made me very curious about that particular activity that is going on at this music school. The activity that the percussion teacher leads is Strängnäs Drumcorps. - I have worked as a percussion teacher in many different contexts during my time as a student at the Malmö Academy of Music but before that as well. Because of this I have had the privilege of meeting many different students at many different schools. It is however the students from one particular school that stood out from the rest when it comes to the students' motivation. This made me very curious about that particular activity that is going on at this music school. The activity that the percussion teacher leads is Strängnäs Drumcorps. This essay has been made because I wanted to try and get an understanding about what it is that make the students who are also members in Strängnäs Drumcorps, so motivated. Three informants have been interviewed and one rehearsal with the drum section in the band has been videotaped. The three informants are persons who all have different relations to the activity. Informant number one is currently a member in Strängnäs Drumcorps. Informant
number two was a member for many years and has after this been a member of one of the biggest Drumcorps in USA. The third informant is the leader and the founder of Strängnäs Drumcorps. The study has been done through the method qualitative research interview and the gathering of data was made through audio recording during the interviews and video recording during the rehearsal. I have examined some parts of the activity, which I think motivates the members. My conclusion is that these parts of the activity, effectively invites every student to find their own inner

- Jag har undervisat i slagverk i många olika sammanhang. Bland annat under min tid vid Musikhögskolan i Malmö men även innan. Detta har gjort att jag har träffat väldigt många olika slagverkselever vid många olika skolor. Det är dock eleverna från en skola som enligt min uppfattning står ut från de övriga när det kommer till elevernas motivation och egna drivkraft. Det här gjorde mig väldigt nyfiken på den verksamhet som bedrivs vid Strängnäs musikskola. Verksamheten som slagverksläraren bedriver där är Drumcorps. skedde genom ljudinspelning under intervjuerna samt videoupptagning vid repetitionen. Under arbetet har jag undersökt några delar av verksamheten som jag tror fungerar som motivationsfaktorer. Min slutsats är att dessa motivationsfaktorer på ett effektivt sätt bjuder in varje elev till att hitta just sin inre motivation. (Less)
