Abstract
This report is a Fire Safety Evaluation of Sky City’s public areas at Arlanda Airport and aims to evaluate the safety of persons in the event of fire. The report is written by students in the fire safety engineering program at Lund University.

The analysis determines three possible fire scenarios in different parts of the building, which are considered to have the worst probable outcome in terms of life safety. The scenarios were analyzed using CFD simulations and hand-calculations to determine at which time conditions become critical for persons in terms of view through smoke, temperature and radiation. These times where compared to the calculated time of a complete egress, which was determined using Simulex. The comparisons lead to a positive time margin in all cases where the sprinkler system worked as intended. A positive time margin means that the egress was completed before critical conditions were reached. When analyzing the scenarios without a working sprinkler system the time margin was in some cases negative, meaning life safety in case of fire could not be assured. To strengthen the fire safety of Sky City and to ascertain life safety in case of fire, measures were suggested in the report. Some measures have to be made and some are strongly recommended. (Less)
