- En av de mest centrala frågorna på den internationella politiska arenan idag är hur vi ska bekämpa världsfattigdomen, en fråga varpå det finns massor av teorier och följaktligen svar. Ett perspektiv som gör anspråk på att lösa fattigdomsproblematiken och bidra till en hållbar utveckling är inclusive business-teorin, och ur den sprungna, BoP-modellen. Modellen utgår från ett marknadsliberalt perspektiv på utveckling och åsyftar att fattigdom kan bekämpas genom att stimulera tillväxten hos världens allra fattigaste befolkning. - En av de mest centrala frågorna på den internationella politiska arenan idag är hur vi ska bekämpa världsfattigdomen, en fråga varpå det finns massor av teorier och följaktligen svar. Ett perspektiv som gör anspråk på att lösa fattigdomsproblematiken och bidra till en hållbar utveckling är inclusive business-teorin, och ur den sprungna, BoP-modellen. Modellen utgår från ett marknadsliberalt perspektiv på utveckling och åsyftar att fattigdom kan bekämpas genom att stimulera tillväxten hos världens allra fattigaste befolkning. Inclusive business-teori utgår från att genom att anta ett inkluderande kapitalistiskt förhållningssätt och involvera de allra fattigaste i hela värdekedjan, så som producent, konsument och distributör, kan man bidra till en effektiv hållbar utveckling. På så sätt får parterna ta lika del av tillväxtens fördelar, och detta kan således vara en lösning på den asymmetriska resursfördelningen som råder i världen idag.
Jag har genom en normativ värdegrund, i form av kapacitetsteori, kritiskt granskat detta förhållningssätt till hållbar utveckling, och på så sätt analysera om det finns sociala parametrar för hållbar utveckling som inclusive business-teori och BoP-modellen förbiser. Den kritiska granskningen har jag vidare förankrat och applicerat på ett av Sidas nya utvecklingsprogram, Inovation Against Poverty, som antagit inclusive business-perspektivet.
Resultatet av studien är följaktligen att en hybrid mellan kapacitetsteorins individuella normativa anspråk och inclusive business-teorins praktiska tillämpning kan vara att föredra för att öka det sociala värdet av hållbar utveckling. (Less) - Abstract

The importance of the issue results in abundance of theo-ries, which gives at the least as many answers. One theory that provides a solution to the issue of world poverty whilst contributing to a sustainable development is the Inclusive Business Theory, and the closely tied Bottom of Pyramid-strategy. This strategy aims to fight poverty in the poorest communities of the world through the stimulation of eco-nomic growth, stemming from a capitalistic view on development.

As the name suggests, the Inclusive Business Theory aims to including the poor-est in the value chain by equally involving them as producers, consumers and distribu-tors. The aim is that through this also contribute to an effective and sustainable devel-opment. This is suggested to be a solution to the asymmetrical distribution of resources, since all the included parties can enjoy the advantages of economic growth.
In this thesis I critically investigate, using the Capabilities Approach, whether there are social parameters to sustainable development that the above-mentioned theo-ries overlook. Further I apply the conclusions of the critical investigation on Sida:s new program for development; Innovation Against Poverty, a program that has adopted the Inclusive Business Theory.
The conclusion of the study is in summary, that a hybrid between the normative pretensions in the Capability Approach and the practical application of the Inclusive Business Theory might be to prefer, to contain the social value of the sustainable devel-opment. (Less)
