Abstract
This paper focuses on the cessation of the Angolan refugees in Zambia and South Africa. The paper aims to identify the problems concerning the cessation for a group of ref-ugees and will show that even thought the group as a whole might not have reason to fear for their life, there could be individuals within the group who have. Furthermore, the essay alerts how arbitrary the process to get an alternative status is. Seyla Benhbaibs theory about the entitlement of rights will be used as a mean to show why the process of an alternative status is of importance - with the risk of being “only human” as a worst result. The essay stresses the need to fallow UNHCRs recommendations for the cessa-tion clause concerning the Angolan refugees,... (More)

The essay stresses the need to fallow UNHCRs recommendations for the cessa-tion clause concerning the Angolan refugees, particular article 28 that states that no one should loose their refugee status before gaining a new status under law. To show the complexity of international law Michael Baruticski and Christina Voigt’s different ways of understanding it will be used to analyse UNHCRs recommendations. The diverse ways of interpreting the law is essential for how to read UNHCRs recommendations for the Angolan cessation. (Less)
