The Swedish social service and the closed institutional youth care are obligated by law to cooperate during the execution of young offenders who serves a sentence at an institution. The aim of this study was to capture how the two involved actors express their thoughts and feelings about their collaboration. The aim was also to find out about the collaboration regarding the transition from institutions. How does it work in the field? We conducted three interviews with representatives from different social services offices and four interviews with representatives from two closed youth care institutions. The interviews were semi-structured and the respondents got the chance to discuss different themes. All of the participants were asked the same questions and the aim was to capture the complexity of the collaboration. We used the theory of organization and additionally a perspective on collaboration to acknowledge why the involved actors act the way they do. We also used earlier studies within the topic to interpret and understand our data. This study shows that there are a variety of reasons why collaboration sometimes can be difficult between the social services and the closed youth care institutions. It shows that responsibility distribution, lack of common goals, communication, resources and information about the aim of the collaboration can be reasons for unsuccessfulness. (Less)
