It’s shown that parents don’t get the professional support they would need in their vulnerable situation. Nowadays it’s more and more common that parents use the internet to process their experiences. The specific aim of this study was to analyse what parents discuss about their children’s ADHD diagnosis on the web-based site familjeliv.se (family life). Discussions from the forum at familjeliv.se were selected from year 2010 until now. Nine discussions were selected for a qualitative content analysis. Grounded theory was used for analysing the material. The results are presented in themes of advantages/ disadvantages and feelings connected with the diagnosis of their child and what help the website seem to be for the parents. The social construction theory and the stigma theory were used in the analysis of the material. The results showed advantages as; a relief of getting the diagnosis and the rights to get help. The disadvantages are about social consequences and problems with getting the right help. Parents’ feelings connected to their children’s diagnosis are; worry for the future and shame over their children’s diagnose. The parents seem to have a huge need for support and it looks like the discussion forum is one positive way of getting that. One conclusion is that parents of a child with ADHD are in a very vulnerable position. (Less)
