The music industry’s venture capitalists - A case study on a British educational institution of rock- & popmusic
What is the aim and purpose of popular music in higher education? The question above is one of many asked throughout the process of writing this paper. During a week we set out to try and answer it by conducting a case study research paper on The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, England. Using focus group- interviews as our primary source of data collection, we presented ungrounded, provocative statements regarding the existence of popular music within the academic world to be able to harvest interesting thoughts and ideas that these discussions brought into light. What is the aim and purpose of popular music in higher education? The question above is one of many asked throughout the process of writing this paper. During a week we set out to try and answer it by conducting a case study research paper on The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London, England. Using focus group- interviews as our primary source of data collection, we presented ungrounded, provocative statements regarding the existence of popular music within the academic world to be able to harvest interesting thoughts and ideas that these discussions brought into light. The results of these discussions are presented in a fashion that mainly concludes the hardships of institutionalising popular music but also to an extent provide valid arguments for its existence within the academic
world. In the concluding chapter we continue this discussion but also draw comparisons to our own context by marrying our background with the results presented. (Less)

Vad är syftet och målen med populärmusik i högre utbildning? Detta är en fråga som vi ställt oss under arbetes gång, en av många. Under en vecka i oktober reste vi till The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance i London, England, för att genomföra en fallstudie utav skolan. Med fokusgrupper som intervjumetodik kastade vi ut en rad påståenden och frågor kring rock- och popmusikens existens inom universitetsvärlden för att sedan håva in intressanta tankar och idéer med oss hem. Under resultat presenterar vi dessa, med en efterföljande diskussion i nästa kapitel där vi ger vårt svenska perspektiv på hur det fungerar på The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance.
