- Abstract
- This thesis examines absorptive capacity as a motive for firms to ally in the Swedish life science industry. The examination builds on the relational view wich is an extention of the resource based view and partially transaction cost theory. Based on the assumption that strategic alliances can create values and competitive advantages beyond values a separate firm can create, the relational view opens for the possibility that firms might seek strategic alliances in order to appropriate a greater value than the alliance partner. A firm's absorptive capacity is a dynamic capability that enlightens a firm's ability to identify, implement and exploite internal and external information.
