In the meantime right wing parties are receiving increased support in parts of the continent. These parties often use racist propaganda that is based on strategies that you also can find in marketing. The theories that this paper is using are based on a research paper by Moufahim et. al. which examines the correlation of political marketing and the Belgian right wing party Vlaams Blok. This paper discusses the way that right wing parties market themselves through controversial platforms such as discriminating against a minority. The paper uses the Hungarian party Jobbik as an example and examines their discourse towards Roma people. The method is based on a critical discourse analysis (CDA) and uses the theories of Wodak and Dijk which focuses the CDA on history and socio-cultural aspects. Finally this paper concludes that the political marketing theories of Moufahim et. al. is in fact applicable to Jobbik. It also determines that it comes down to decide whether you prioritize freedom of speech or to prevent minorities from being discriminated against. (Less)
