Abstract
As globalization advances, so does international trading. This Bachelor’s thesis’ purpose is to analyze in what way corporations conform to human rights by using suppliers in a globalized environment and what impact globalization has on corporation’s actions in accordance with human rights. By qualitatively analyzing documents and by conducting an argumentation analysis, the methodological foundation was given to break down information on a theoretical foundation. The theorists used are sociologists Zygmunt Bauman and Robert K. Merton. As globalization advances, so does international trading. This Bachelor’s thesis’ purpose is to analyze in what way corporations conform to human rights by using suppliers in a globalized environment and what impact globalization has on corporation’s actions in accordance with human rights. By qualitatively analyzing documents and by conducting an argumentation analysis, the methodological foundation was given to break down information on a theoretical foundation. The results presented in this Bachelor’s thesis are that there are hardly any legal consequences for multinational corporations if they do not conform to human rights by choosing suppliers who do not live up to standards set by the United Nations, the Global Compact, or the European Social Charter. Globalization makes it possible for corporations to place the responsibility for compliance with human rights on the states where their suppliers are located in. Because of a consumeristic climate in the world, multinational corporations can get away with human rights violations due to a lack of societal interest. (Less)
