- Barn har ett grundläggande behov av en förälder, en anknytningsperson, som är tillgänglig för barnet och ser till barnets behov (Bowlby, 1994). När föräldern placeras i anstalt kommer relationen mellan barn och föräldrar att ta plats inom en ram av regelverk och lagar utformade av samhället. Syftet med den här studien var att undersöka hur barns relation/anknytning till sin förälder påverkas av att hen blir dömd till fängelse. För studien användes en kvalitativ metod. Åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer genomfördes med åtta barn mellan åtta-sjutton år. Intervjuerna spelades in om möjligt, transkriberades och analyserades utifrån anknytningsteori. De beskrev långa avstånd till sin frihetsberövade förälder, obehagliga säkerhetskontroller, samt svårigheter att få till stånd regelbundna besök och telefonsamtal. Det här försvårar barnets möjligheter till en regelbunden kontakt, vilket är en förutsättning för att barnet skall kunna utveckla en trygg anknytning till föräldern, samt kunna bearbeta separationen. Utifrån barnens berättelser tycks interventioner så som besökslägenheter och Gruvberget där barnen får spendera en kort tid som en riktig familj, påverka barnens relation till sina föräldrar i positiv riktning. Författarna efterfrågar en skärskådning i kriminalvårdssystemet där man inte straffar barnet när föräldern har begått ett brott. (Less)

The aim of this study was to examine how children's relationship/attachment to the parent is affected by the fact that the parent is sentenced to prison. This study used a qualitative approach. Eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight children between the ages of eight and seventeen. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed based on attachment theory. Participants described the incarceration as equal to having lost a parent. They also described long distances, unpleasant security controls, and difficulties in obtaining regular visits and phone calls. Regular contact such as visitation and telephone calls are essential for the child to develop a secure attachment to the parent. Based on the children's stories, interventions such as visitation apartments and Gruvberget, where the children can spend some time as a normal family, and improve children's relationship with their parents. The authors are requesting a system where the children are not punished for their parents’ crimes. (Less)
