Abstract
Several studies have shown the importance of the market entry mode when entering foreign markets. However, previous studies give various results. Japan is said to have a unique culture and many companies have been forced to give up their attempts to enter the Japanese market. This thesis aims to describe the entry process of four Swedish subsidiaries in Japan and analyze the effects of cultural differences. We have performed a qualitative study and interviewed ten respondents. Hofstede's cultural dimensions have been used to describe the cultural distance between Sweden and Japan. Theories regarding the effects of cultural differences on entry mode choice and the firms' operations in Japan are then described. The conclusion is that some... (More)

The conclusion is that some kind of collaboration is favorable when entering a culturally distant market. In case of high market potential a wholly owned investment might be preferable. For a successful entry to a foreign market we stress the importance of patience and consideration of local culture. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
