- Abstract
- This study investigates the possibility of implementing a public transport system in the Croatian city Koprivnica. In 2000 Koprivnica signed the Aalborg Declaration that commits the city to work towards a sustainable development of the city including upgrading pedestrian and bicycle pathway. Firstly the paper examines the current status of the city to locate the important target points and possibilities for further development. Secondly how to create a public transportation network suitable for the city. Through an analysis of the public transport network based on guidelines from HiTrans this paper discusses where to position a bus terminal. Furthermore it discusses how to design and develop the bus terminal and its surroundings based on... (More)

Firstly the paper examines the current status of the city to locate the important target points and possibilities for further development. Secondly how to create a public transportation network suitable for the city. Through an analysis of the public transport network based on guidelines from HiTrans this paper discusses where to position a bus terminal. Furthermore it discusses how to design and develop the bus terminal and its surroundings based on RiTerm -09 and VGU’s theory on terminal design and Jan Gehl and Sven Allan Bjerkemo theory on how to design surroundings from a human perspective. The result was a modified O terminal. The multi-criteria analysis evaluated the results which met the desired goals. The proposal was projected into AutoCAD and visualized in Google SketchUp. It is concluded that the public transport networks developed in this paper serves various target groups and it is therefore important to determine which group to focus on when deciding which model to implement in Koprivnica.
Moreover when designing a bus terminal, it might be necessary to adapt to the specific environment and modify exciting models for bus terminals. The end result was two different route systems that satisfies two different combinations of audiences. (Less)
