- Abstract
- In this thesis, the main focus of study has been the construction of violence in correlation with men using violence and violence being used against men. With a qualitative reasearch method, six interviews with six seperate employees at the Crisis Center have been conducted. The Crisis Center is a treatment center where therapy is given to men, women, teens, and children that have experienced physical or/and physchological violence. Through the way in which the interviewees have articulated themselves on their interactions with their clients; I have been able to get a picture of how the construction of violence relates to 1. men who use violence 2. men who have been subject to violence. - In this thesis, the main focus of study has been the construction of violence in correlation with men using violence and violence being used against men. With a qualitative reasearch method, six interviews with six seperate employees at the Crisis Center have been conducted. The Crisis Center is a treatment center where therapy is given to men, women, teens, and children that have experienced physical or/and physchological violence. Through the way in which the interviewees have articulated themselves on their interactions with their clients; I have been able to get a picture of how the construction of violence relates to 1. men who use violence 2. men who have been subject to violence. The thesis analysis is thematically divided and consists of six different themes.
The interview material has been analyzed with R. W. Connell´s theory on masculinities. The analysis shows how violence is constructed, and also in which way men who use violence and men who have been/are subject to violence are treated within an organisation such as the Crisis Center.
In the analysis I have also brought up how the staff at the center use their treatment methods, relate themselves to, and deal with men who commit violent acts/use violence, and also men who are/have
been subject to violence during the treatment process. The results of the study show that the staff team at the Crisis Center do not use a strict treatment regimine on their clients. The variations of the individual clients situation and experience with violence are broad and therefore the clients needs determine the methods used. Even the constructions of the reasons for why violence is used, and the men who use it, or have it used against them are highley variating. A childhood where violence has
been used to resolve conflicts within the family, is one of the main links that I have found between the reasons for violence and the construction of violent men. The reasons behind violence with
abused men is constructed among with other things when others' interests and values goes before one's own. A variety of different conceptions of how the reasons for violence are constructed with the various parties has been discussed throughout the analysis as well as the thesis conclusion. (Less)
