Abstract
Language never stops changing, new verbs and words are established all the time. A language sometimes borrows words from other languages, the reasons for why can differ. This essay investigates four English words (appeal, competitor, design, target) that nowadays can be found in Italian. The question is: how are these words used in Italian? The words have been searched for in an Italian corpus and the findings are that the words have more specific meaning in Italian than in English. For instance, "appeal" is used when talking about the appeal of a product but not about the appeal of a person.
