By examining the case of Iran with demographic tools the paper attempts to, through a gender perspective, find indicators on changes in female status. The paper examines five different demographic categories; Education and employment, fertility, age at marriage and family structure and finally the sociopolitical group youth. This paper acknowledges that there are many demographic factors that affect women’s situation in Iran and that the country is becoming more and more equal and aware of the patriarchal structures. It also notes that this to a high degree varies contextually and that demography is only one of the factors that affect the status of females in a society. (Less)
