Abstract
Corruption is at present costing the European society enormously amounts, in forms of money and in relation to social, economic, political and legal development. Democracy is viewed as one of the fundamental pillars of the European Union, which additionally has been one of the Union’s highest priorities since its foundation. One aspect that may be hindering the increasing of democracy is a state’s level of corruption. Corruption is at present affecting several aspects of democratic rights and is still a major problem in several of the Union’s member states.
