Drömmar, dialoger och dioramor: bilder av mänsklighet i The Day the Earth Stood Still

Karlsson, Maja (2014) GNV103 20032
Department of Gender Studies
Abstract
This thesis presents a reading of the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still from 2008, tracing stories and articulations of what it means to be human, via three themes: encounters with the unknown, conflicts between value codes and finally, the role of communication and otherness in the production of humanity. With tools from semiology and psychoanalysis, and inspiration from feminist cultural studies and the concept of story telling, the images of humanity is linked to mythologies of hope, science, whiteness and womanhood.
