Mentoring has both a narrow and a broad meaning. In the literature professional tutoring often
describes as a tool, where the mentors use established instruments, to support the professional
in their career. I do believe that good mentoring needs more than a professional technique.

professional tutoring. The study was conducted with a quantitative method, based on a
questionnaire survey, carried out on a group of doctors (both mentors and mentees). The
questions were constructed based on theories of social psychology. The respondents whom
answered were too few (n21/n117= 18%) to make any general conclusion, but the results
indicate that relational aspects do occur in professional tutoring. Both the mentors and
mentees, whom did answer, do find it important. Based on the respondents answer; it seems
that the relational aspects should get a wider presentation in research and literature about
professional tutoring. (Less)
