Abstract
This qualitative study is based on interviews with four different voluntary workers. The focus on this study is young voluntary workers inside the organization TAMAM. TAMAM is a voluntary organization with a focus on helping children with their homework, but also bounding relationships between children with different backgrounds. The main goal with this study was to find out how young voluntary workers in TAMAM motivate themselves on acting pro social without any financial benefits. Where does the motivation come from? Does the pro social action come from altruistic motivation, or does it come from egoism.

The main goal with this study was to find out how young voluntary workers in TAMAM motivate themselves on acting pro social without any financial benefits. Where does the motivation come from? Does the pro social action come from altruistic motivation, or does it come from egoism.

To find out wether the young voluntary workers pro social motivation i altruistic or egoistic, different theories from other resurch have been used. There were different opionons on wether altuism or egoism trigger our motivation to help others. Some resuch shows that altuism is something most people can get their motivation from. Other shows that altruism is only something wich could be triggerd if the person in need is a close relative or a friend and that other typse of pro social motivation is triggered by egoism.

All four of the young voluntary workers in TAMAM answered differently to the questions in the interview. Findings in this study state that both altruism and egoism motivate voluntary workers in TAMAM. The answers from the voluntary workers indicate that their group members motivate most of them. For some workers, the motivation to see the group members in the organization is equal or higher than to see the children they are helping. However, findings also show that the young volontary workers have a high sense of emapthy, which grows over time. The altruistic motivation seems to be something that triggers the voluntary workers in TAMAM once they’ve built a working relationship with the children. (Less)
