Abstract
My purpose with my study is to find out how an evidence-based social service effects the discretion of today social worker. The empirical material of my study consists of five semi-structured interviews with five social workers in the southern part of Sweden. I have analyzed the empirical material with Michael Lipsky theories of street-level bureaucracy and discretion. I have deepened Lipsky´s theory with the anthology Discretion– challenges in social work written by Johnsson , Laanemet & Svensson (2008). I found that social workers want their work to be evidence-based but they don’t have the time to read the latest research due to their workload.
