Leder Lean till Green?

- Abstract
- In this thesis, a qualitative comparative case study has been conducted in five production companies. This has been made to get an understanding of how companies work with Lean and environmental management. Four interviews were conducted and two survey responses were received and there were eight open-ended questions where respondents were relatively free to talk about their experiences. The questions asked; why, when and how they work with Lean and environmental management. To the literature study I used the philosophy and theory behind Lean that is described in Jeffrey K Likers book The Toyota Way - Lean for world class. The basis of this report, which explains the history behind Lean and what this is, will follow The Toyota Production... (More)

The basis of this report, which explains the history behind Lean and what this is, will follow The Toyota Production System (TPS). The literature survey and the companies interviewed, reveals a common thread. The companies are very familiar and well-informed regarding Toyota's Lean Work and it can be clearly seen that they know what methods and tools to be used and worked for. However, it is clear that the companies are aware that it is not only to use the toolkit, but that the process behind is just as important. However, the companies believe that education and competition is an important thing regarding Lean. Also that the companies have realized the customer's value in the process, the client controls the demand and companies want to give the customer what they want. To reduce their downtime and optimize their production gives a loss with the waste of resources and time. From this it can be seen disposed action decreases and the reduction of energy consumption occurred at companies. In this process the links between Lean and environmental work can be seen. Companies manifests that the two go hand in hand. The study is important because two major systems that are sufficiently different nevertheless can interact in an environmentally way. (Less)
