Abstract
When constructing roads, it often happens that the contractor have trouble following the documentation intended for the project. When the contractor is unable to follow the documents and instead need new instructions, there is always changed, added or outgoing work. Sometimes this could mean that it is impossible to stay within the road area, for example, to accommodate the slopes, or more land necessarily acquired and along with excavation work to the mass balance is thus changed. This can, both financially and legally, have significant consequences. The purpose of this thesis is to make the industry aware of the errors that occur, why they occur and what can be done to avoid them. To answer these questions, documents were analyzed and... (More)

To answer these questions, documents were analyzed and interviews with experienced industry operators were accomplished. The roads analysed in this thesis are 108 route Holmeja - Klågerup and E22 route Rolsberga - Fogdarp. Most of the interviewed persons have some connection to the studied roads. During the interviews, there were discussions both about the problems encountered in the projects and the problems that occur in general. The studies that has been conducted have shown that the errors that occur when designing roads generally is a major problem. There are many reasons why errors occur. The main reasons are lack of communication, inadequate investigations of the area, deficiencies in the basis that the construction planner receives and that construction planner do not have sufficient knowledge and/or experience in general of practical building. Design and construct contract is a relatively new form of contract, and it has sometimes been problems with which operator has the responsibility for what and how much responsibility the operator has. Trafikverket got a responsibility to create the right conditions for the other operators so they can accomplish an as good project as possible. To avoid future errors with designing it requires that the communication between the operators gets better, all operators must strive for the same goal. If the contractor is present during the planning phase, errors that occur during construction can be detected at an earlier stage. Construction meetings are a good opportunity to exchange experience between the operators. (Less)
