- Abstract
- Trash can harm both the environment and humans. It can maintain for a long time in the environment before degrading and during that time it can pollute soils and poison animals. This study focuses on the Pellekan campaign which started to reduce littering in the city of Mölndal. The campaign has been working the same way from the start in 2002 and now is time to evaluate how well it worked. For this purpose I did a survey, a literature review, an interview and a study visit. A total of 88 inhabitants answered the survey and the most important results show that 68% of the participants in the study have knowledge about the campaign and that 22 % of the respondents reply that they litter less after they got to know about Pellekan. The majority of the participants declared that the campaign's intention did not affect them considerably. Nevertheless the results showed that most of them did not litter before the campaign started. The literature review was done to find ways of improving the campaign. The results from my review indicate that the municipality needs to spread the information about Pellekan better and work preventive, for example distribute trash bins more effectively. The campaign also needs to check that all of their activities are environmental friendly and then promote it better. To better evaluate if the littering is decreasing they should start measuring the trash volumes. This information can be used to show the inhabitants that they are making progress. (Less)
