Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the evaluative factor influences the perception of person organization fit (P-O fit), which implies congruence between an individual and an organization. Evaluativity was defined, in this study, as an individual who has a tendency to describe herself in positive evaluative terms, and in her self-description uses expressions that are socially desirable. The design of the study was quasi-experimental and consisted of two sections; One personality test of 80 self-report questions and ten fictional cover letters. These letters were constructed to capture either a descriptive or evaluative language use. The participants were students at Lund University (n=100), who acted as recruiters for the... (More)

The participants were students at Lund University (n=100), who acted as recruiters for the purpose of this study. Their ratings of the cover letters were correlated with their individual level of evaluativity. The results confirmed that congruence between a recruiter’s and a candidate’s level of evaluativity contributed to the perception of fit. In addition, the results revealed a general tendency for people to rate evaluative letters higher than letters that were formulated in a descriptive way. These findings add to the understanding of what are the underlying factors of P-O fit. Moreover, this knowledge is of great value to recruiters in their everyday work. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
