Abstract
This report is a master thesis in Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering LTH at Lund University. The project was performed in collaboration with ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, a Swedish company founded in 1994 manufacturing manual and automatic entrance systems. ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is one of five divisions at ASSA ABLOY which is one of the largest companies within the field of doors and locks.

ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is one of five divisions at ASSA ABLOY which is one of the largest companies within the field of doors and locks.
The goal of the master thesis is to develop a new kind of entrance which is quadrilateral. The advantage of this kind of entrance is the cost will be much lower since it is easier and needs less procedures to manufacture. Another advantage is it uses less space when being transported to end-customer, since it only consist of “flat packages”, compared to a conventional revolving doors. Regular sliding doors are today already transported in flat packages but they do not have very good properties when it comes to create an airlock and to keep warm/cool air inside the building - depending on which part of the world the building is located in. Limitations for the master thesis includes competitors' patents, manufacturing aspects or mounts and beams between different parts of the structure.
The method is based on Ulrich and Eppinger’s work on product development, with some changes to fit the project.
The result of the work is an entrance system in which the door leafs are hanging on car following two tracks located in the area above the doors.
A change that has been made to the original idea is that the middle section has been made wider, and pillars for stabilisation has been added in front of the middle section.
ASSA ABLOY are very pleased with the result and are right now applying for a patent for the entrance system. (Less)
