Abstract
The aim of this master thesis is to analyse the development of existing guidelines for storing of solid biofuels as well as highlighting doubts on how storage and handling of biofuel within CHP industry and paper mass industry. Through interviews and site visits, identify what risk reducing measures that are applied in practice. In an effort to analyse statistics and examine the frequency of the various events statistics have been collected since this information has not been able to be obtained otherwise. The collected statistics show that the likelihood of overheating in the biofuel is considerably larger than the occurrence of a smouldering fire or the large-scale fire. The aim of this master thesis is to analyse the development of existing guidelines for storing of solid biofuels as well as highlighting doubts on how storage and handling of biofuel within CHP industry and paper mass industry. The collected statistics show that the likelihood of overheating in the biofuel is considerably larger than the occurrence of a smouldering fire or the large-scale fire. This means that risk reducing measures primarily should endeavour to prevent the occurrence of an overheating fuel stock. The authors recommend focusing on measures to prevent the occurrence of a smouldering fire. The statistics are considered by the authors to constitute a basis for discussion and a hint of past events and is not statistically significant in sufficiently large scale to be used as a basis for decision-making in matters relating to fuel stock. The result of the analysis is that the existing guidelines are not fully developed with the operations experience of the CHP industry. (Less)
