- Abstract (Swedish)
- The purpose of this report is to evaluate the safety of life during evacuation from the icebreaker Sankt Erik in Stockholm in the event of fire onboard. Sankt Erik was decommissioned in 1977 and operates since 1980 as a museum under the Swedish Maritime Museum in Stockholm, moored at Galärvarvet. Being a museum no major alterations to the structure are allowed. Furthermore, the majority of the materials used is a combination of sheet-metal and wood, leaving Sankt Erik without any compartment boundaries. During the evaluation no concern has been taken to economic loss or environmental damage. The goal of the report has been to assure the safety of the visitors in case of fire and to provide safe exit. The report is based on a deterministic... (More)

During the evaluation no concern has been taken to economic loss or environmental damage. The goal of the report has been to assure the safety of the visitors in case of fire and to provide safe exit. The report is based on a deterministic analysis during which three scenarios have been selected as worst credible scenarios. Analytical calculations and computer simulations has been used to determine the time until safe evacuation cannot be assured. This have then been compared with the calculated time and simulations for evacuation together with a qualitative assessment. For scenarios where criteria for safe evacuation are not met different solutions to improve the fire safety has been presented and evaluated. (Less)
