Markskador inom skogsbruket : jordartens betydelse

Skogsbruket är viktigt för svenskt näringsliv och står för ungefär 20 % av Sveriges totala export. Efterfrågan på virke blir därmed stor vilket resulterar i att avverkning sker ständigt, året om, på all typ av mark under alla olika sorters väderförhållanden. Ett stort problem inom skogsbruket är de markskador som ofta uppstår efter en slutförd avverkning. Markskador ändrar markens textur och egenskaper samt ytavrinningen på området och berör därmed även skogens rekreation, ekologi och friluftsliv negativt. Inom ramen för detta examensarbete har markskador i skogsbruket studerats med information från litteratur, studiebesök, utbildningsdag, intervju samt fältbesök. Efterfrågan på virke blir därmed stor vilket resulterar i att avverkning sker ständigt, året om, på all typ av mark under alla olika sorters väderförhållanden. Ett stort problem inom skogsbruket är de markskador som ofta uppstår efter en slutförd avverkning. Markskador ändrar markens textur och egenskaper samt ytavrinningen på området och berör därmed även skogens rekreation, ekologi och friluftsliv negativt. Inom ramen för detta examensarbete har markskador i skogsbruket studerats med information från litteratur, studiebesök, utbildningsdag, intervju samt fältbesök. En sammanställning har därefter gjorts av skogsbrukets faktiska påverkan på mark och hur markskador påverkar kringliggande natur. Dagens metoder för att undvika markskador har sedan studerats, och därefter hur bättre kartmaterial hade kunnat minska antalet markskador inom skogsbruket. När en markskada påverkar ett närliggande vattendrag och de vattenlevande organismerna negativt så anses skadan allvarlig och måste återställas. Markskador är kostsamma och för att undvika skador krävs bra information och kartmaterial på det område som ska avverkas, men även praktiska hjälpmedel. Markens bärighet beror i stort på jordartens sammansättning och vattenförhållanden. Information om jordarten på ett avverkningsområde kan ge förståelse för markens egenskaper och möjligheten att undvika markskador. Grovkorniga jordarter har bättre bärighet medan finkorniga jordarter håller vatten bättre vilket resulterar i sämre bärighet. SGU har ett stort kartregister över denna typ av information som är tillgängligt för alla. Information om jordart är inget som skogsentreprenörer inhämtar idag före en avverkning, men om detta görs hade markskadorna troligtvis minska inom skogsbruket. (Less)

Forestry is important for Swedish industry and accounts for 20% of Sweden’s total export. The endless demand of wood results in logging all year round, but other aspects have to be taken into consideration. The ecology, forest recreation and the outdoor activities that the forest is providing is very important to preserve. A major problem in forestry is the soil damage after a successful harvest. The damage changes the soils texture and the water run-off. This is something that endangers other important aspects of the forest. In this rapport soil damage in forestry is examined with information from literature, field studies and interviews. The ecology, forest recreation and the outdoor activities that the forest is providing is very important to preserve. A major problem in forestry is the soil damage after a successful harvest. The damage changes the soils texture and the water run-off. This is something that endangers other important aspects of the forest. In this rapport soil damage in forestry is examined with information from literature, field studies and interviews. A summary is then made to understand the actual impact of forestry on the underlying soil and how soil damage affects the surrounding nature. Today's methods to avoid soil damage have been studied and how better maps could maybe decrease damage. When soil damage affect nearby watercourses and aquatic organisms, they are considered to be major and must be restored. Soil damage are costly, and can be minimized by good information and map material on areas that are being harvested, but also practical tools to use out in the field. Soil stability depends largely on soil composition and water conditions. Information about the soil characteristics of the area that is being harvested can help understanding its capacity and preventing soil damage. Coarse-grained soils have better resistance then fine-grained soils whereas fine-grained soils holds water better and result in poor bearing capacity. The Swedish Geological Survey (SGU) has a large amount of maps with this type of information which is available for the public. Forestry contractors do not obtain this kind of information today, but if they do, soil damages in forestry can probably be reduced. (Less)
