(2015) FEKN90 20151Department of Business Administration
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less) - Abstract
- Purpose: The study aims to investigate if the percent correctly predicted credit ratings can be shown to be higher than previous research has established with an industry-specific survey of technology and utility companies. The study also aims to, in the same context, examine if the percent correctly predicted credit ratings proves to be higher in the these two separate industry-specific than in an investigation of the two sectors simultaneously.
Methodology: This study is of deductive and quantitative nature and examines the percent correctly predicted credit ratings using an ordered logit regression model.
Theoretical foundation: Is based on the trade-off theory, which claims that companies have different optimal capital structure.... Methodology: This study is of deductive and quantitative nature and examines the percent correctly predicted credit ratings using an ordered logit regression model.
Theoretical foundation: Is based on the trade-off theory, which claims that companies have different optimal capital structure. It also consists of previous research that aimed to achieve the highest percent correctly estimated rating.
Empirical foundation: The empirical foundation of this study is based on a quantitative data set of nine variables collected from technology and utility companies listed on the U.S. S&P 500 list. Data were obtained from the Standard & Poor’s and Thomson Reuters database through Datastream och Eikon.
Conclusions: The study could not show a higher correct prediction than previous research, though the result was in parity with those studies. However, this study showed that an industry-specific survey could better predict credit ratings than when merging the two industries. (Less)
