The analysis has been divided into two themes – meanings of assistance and the relationship to the assistant, as well as a number of sub-themes that have emerged from the empirical data. A complex picture appears from the results as experiences differ in many aspects as well as how parents manage life with assistance. The fact that the home is the workplace is a crucial aspect. This seems to create mixed feelings as to whether the relation to the assistant should be charactarised by closeness and informal interactions or distance and formality. A conclusion is thus that more research needs to be conducted in the field. Also education, alternatively supervision to the parents as managers, is proposed. (Less)
