The study results show that young adults with a mental disability who live in the parental home is largely dependent on their parents' help to cope with everyday life. This can affect them negatively as some of the parents admit that sometimes limits their independence. The study also shows that parents of young adults with mental disabilities do not feel that they get the support and information they need from the community. The study contributes to increasing knowledge about how parents of young adults with mental disabilities perceive their independence and participation in society. It also provides new perspectives on the young adults' situation when it comes to the environment, membership, participation and independence. (Less)
