Abstract
My paper focuses on the experiences of China’s female sex workers. In particular, this paper focuses on the workers’ lives before joining the sex industry. The research question that is posed asks: “What makes Chinese women become sex workers (i.e., prostitutes)?” Online interviews as well as online personal statements, along with previous research from articles and books are used to study prostitution in China. This paper focuses on China’s present social situation and uses patriarchal and radical feminist theory to analyse China’s sex worker industry. I discovered that Chinese women live in a patriarchal society that encourages gender inequality. Furthermore, women are commercialized and materialized; men are affected by pornography.... (More)

Finally, by living in a society dominated by men, women experience multitudes of unfairness, which is ultimately the underlying reason some choose to become sex workers. (Less)
