Abstract
In order to reach the climate targets for the society, with significant lower proportions of CO2 emissions than today, certain actions are required. To be able to decrease the emissions, one alternative is to increase the amount of people who uses public transportation as opposed to using cars. The municipality of Åstorp is one of the districts that emits most CO2 per person and day in Scania, and therefore the report is immersed in the districts inhabitants ways of travel and is looking to find a possible explanation for these high emissions. It will also be investigated if the district is different compared to other similar districts, and if so, what the district can do to change the allocations for their means of transportation. The... The following questions have been asked and are answered in the report as well as possible:
• Is the use of public transportation low compared to similar districts?
• How is the allocation between travels to and from work, and leisure time travels?
• What can the municipality of Åstorp change and influence? • What is possible to influence? • How should the district prioritize? The report is based on literature studies, previous made travel surveys and interviews.
In the therory part of this essay, general factors which affects travels with public transportation are presented. In the result, data from previous made travel surveys, Resvanor syd 2013 and Kollektivbarometern, is presented. The interviews that have been done with the inhabitants of the district is also presented in this chapter. Finally, comparisons have been made with similar districts in Scania and Sweden through previous made travel surveys. The comparisons are of the districts of Bjuv, Båstad, Knivsta, Hammarö and Hallstahammar. The report shows that the inhabitants of the municipality of Åstorp have both a higher and lower allocation of users of public transportation than similar districts. The result is different in the studied travel surveys. In Resvanor syd 2013 the comparison has been made against the district of Bjuv and Båstad and it shows that the district of Åstorp has the highest amount of users of public transportation. The second survey, Kollektivtrafikbarometern, shows however that the district of Åstorp has the lowest amount of users of public transportation. The allocation between travels to and from work and leisure travels have been studied with assistance of Resvanor syd 2013 and interviews. According to that report the most common mean of transportation for travels to and from work was by car and the second most common was by walking or bicycling. Unfortunately leisure travels cannot be analysed due to lack of data for this kind of travelling.
The interviews in this report show that the allocations within public transportation, here it was shown that 60 % of the participants travels were leisure time travels and barely 30 % were travels to and from work or school. The district of Åstorp can change and influence to get more of their inhabitants to use public transportation. The analysis points out the public transportation services, development the town in a public transportation friendly perspective, how to use price cut campaigns and affect the parking possibilities within the district.
Other points that is possible to affect for the district of Åstorp in collaboration with Skånetrafiken and other districts, such as formation and tax system.
Without involving others, such as Skånetrafiken and other districts, in their attempt to get more inhabitants to use the public transportation, the district can prioritize what they themselves can affect and practise. Keywords: public transportation, CO2 emissions, travel survey, The municipality of Åstorp, allocations for means of transportation. (Less)
