- Abstract
- Sweden is one of the countries where gambling is classified as a public health problem in the community. Gambling addiction did not only have a negative impact on the gambler, but also the relatives around the gambler faced various negative consequences such as mental and physical ill health. Based on the issues, the purpose of this paper has been by the qualitative interviews conducted to gain a deeper understanding of how relatives of addictive gamblers experienced their situation. The interviewees were chosen based on their different circumstances and situations that are relevant to the essay topic and purpose. The study results showed that all the respondents experienced various physical and psychological consequences of being relatives of people with gambling syndrome. The negative consequences that emerged from the respondents, was shown in the financial, relational, physical and mental problems. The study also showed that the relatives, who sought help, did not experience any support from the community. (Less)
