Abstract
This paper examines technological sophistication on a longitudinal scale for Coastal China and South Korea. It uses historical trade and development data from 9 countries to construct a weighted average in which development of economic performance for both countries are evaluated and compared against. China’s trade data consists 91% from export in its “coastal area”, in order to give a more accurate evaluation, this trade data is compared against the wealth development of China’s coastal area. Moreover our pre-analysis model suggests that South Korea exhibited a similar economic development as that of Coastal China and as such is selected for in-depth analysis. Our quantitative results suggest that Coastal China’s technological... (More)

Moreover our pre-analysis model suggests that South Korea exhibited a similar economic development as that of Coastal China and as such is selected for in-depth analysis. Our quantitative results suggest that Coastal China’s technological sophistication value is higher than that of South Korea’s during its economic development, we use an additional calculation to show that Coastal China's development is slower despite having a higher technological sophistication measurement and total GDP growth on average. We suggest that theoretic effects from globalization are causing Coastal China’s trade to be of higher sophistication implying on a new perspective of global economic development with a focus on the effects of exponential technological advancement on economic growth.
