- On social media platforms, such as blogs, the boundaries between private life and working life can be blurred. When social media is used by people who can be seen as agents for human service organizations this can give rise to both ethical and relational issues. On the one hand socialworkers like everyone else should have the right to express opinions and act as private persons on the internet. On the other hand it can be argued that they have a special responsibility towards clients and society and hence should be careful in their use of social media.

The aim of this study is to explore how socialworkers in their use of private, but yet workrelated blogs, relate to their different roles such as agents for human service organizations, professional persons and as private citizens on the internet. Qualitative content analysis has been used to analyze seventeen blogs written by swedish socialworkers. Human service organizations, whistleblowing and Goffmans (2014) theory on social roles are used as theoretical tools in this study.
The study shows that socialworkers use private blogs in various ways, with various purposes. Four different kinds of blogs will be presentet. In some cases socialworkers roles can be easily seperated, in others it is difficult to see if the social worker writes in a personal capacity or in her professional role. (Less)
