Abstract
There is a theoretical gap within Human Geography concerning intra-urban mobility patterns of urban youths, specifically regarding intra-urban mobility for social and cultural purposes (meeting friends or new people, attending cultural events such as the theater etc.). Studies suggest that people’s movement around the city is connected to the social integration of the inhabitants, and further to the inhabitant’s degree of participation in main society. Despite this, there is a lack of theories on intra-urban mobility for social and cultural purposes.

This study investigates the culture project Staden är Din (The City is Yours) in Gothenburg, Sweden, from an intra-urban mobility perspective. One of the main focuses of the project is to break up locked-in mobility patterns of the city’s inhabitants, its adolescents in particular. Through a deeper understanding of Staden är Din and of several youths participating in the project, this study identifies five factors that could be of importance regarding what affects intra-urban mobility patterns of urban youths. I propose these five factors as a possible basis for future studies within the field of intra-urban mobility for social and cultural purposes of urban youth. (Less)
