Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine social policy strategies for elderly care, from a class perspective. The Swedish population is getting older which increases the need of elderly care. Given this situation and that research demonstrate that the number of elderly people have doubled between 2006 and 2011, and since there is a gap of knowledge of the class perspective in elderly care. As empiric material I selected four social policy reports and one Swedish government official report. Method of the research was qualitative content analysis. Three themes were found in the empirics which was responsibility distribution, resource allocation and autonomy based on the qualitative content analysis. My findings were that strategies are foremost focused on elderly provided elderly care in their own home, support to relatives who care for their elderly and that priority will be focused on those who have a severe disease. Result also indicates that the government finds it difficult to finance elderly care with public assets. It could be argued that elderly people who are not granted elderly care, need to provide this service from own capital or relatives, which affects diverse social groups and makes the need of elderly care a matter of class.
