Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine four retirees’ motivation and learning process while playing bass guitar and also to examine what is required of a teacher when teaching senior students. In the study four retirees has been interviewed, taught basic bass guitar playing and observed while doing so. The results of the interviews were then analyzed, categorized and compared with findings from related fields of research.

The results show that the informants initially had clear and specific objectives with the electric bass teaching and also that they felt that they retained these objectives throughout the study. It shows that when teaching students of this age group it’s important to acknowledge the students' previous experiences,... (More)

The results show that the informants initially had clear and specific objectives with the electric bass teaching and also that they felt that they retained these objectives throughout the study. It shows that when teaching students of this age group it’s important to acknowledge the students' previous experiences, musical preferences and that the teaching in general should be based on these conditions. The results also show that the importance of the teacher's relational skills and how the interaction between teacher and student affects the students’ learning and motivation. The informants in the study experienced that cognitive, motor difficulties and also a degree of self-criticism in several ways influenced their learning and motivation. (Less)
