Abstract
In the global world of today where people are more mobile some urban districts have tensions between groups of people, and urban policy need to find tools to create prerequisites for a positive development in the new city. This master thesis take the creative economy approach to describe and analyse creativity as a tool in urban districts in transition. Creativity has great potential in revitalizing urban districts since according to earlier research (for example Richards & Wilson 2007 and Florida 2002) it is flexible and has potential to come up with new and useful combinations. Creativity has great potential in revitalizing urban districts since according to earlier research (for example Richards & Wilson 2007 and Florida 2002) it is flexible and has potential to come up with new and useful combinations. I have done a micro-ethnographic research of two urban districts, Nørrebro in Copenhagen (main case), and Söder in Helsingborg (complementary case). Regarding these districts I have explored and mapped the place-specific qualities in the urban creative landscapes and also examined where and how interaction happen. The research is based on relevant theories regarding actors in the urban place; creative consumers (including creative class), creative producers, and critical infrastructure members. Also theories concerning processes of interaction and creativity, as well as creative cities are explored. In the final chapters of this research the empirical data is presented and discussed, and also illustrated in models for a deeper understanding. Urban creative environments are place-specific but this research could work as a model and inspiration in revitalizing urban districts from grassroots level. (Less)
