Abstract
With today's sustainability thinking and environmental awareness, it is more important than ever to customize even our railway, with its components, for tomorrow's needs. An investment in the replacement of light source is not only an environmental and economic benefit, but also a win for the maintenance. We have chosen in this thesis to investigate why LED technology is not yet incorporated into the main light signals. The aim is to bring the topicality of the subject and also to create a report that can be the basis for further development in the matter. As a complement to the literature study interviews were also made to hear the line of business’ voices and opinions, and to obtain facts not been available in the regulations or other material. Roslagsbanan in Stockholm has implemented LED technology as a light source in the main light signals, which came to our attention during the work. Here were myths dismissed about why an implementation is not fulfilled yet. The low power consumption of the LED lamp is considered as the primary reason. (Less)
