Are they human as much as you are?
(2016) PSYP01 20161Department of Psychology
- Abstract
- Dehumanization has been a widely studied phenomenon for the explanation of inter-group conflicts and violence. In this study, two forms of dehumanization, blatant form and subtle form (infrahumanization), have been applied in a class and culture-related conflict, which is a comparison of urban versus rural within the context of sexual harassment. Dehumanization of two targets (urban versus rural) who engaged in a sexual harassment were analyzed together with moderator effects of personality traits, right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance orientation. The findings showed that the target with a rural background was subtly and blatantly dehumanized compared to the one with an urban background.
