Abstract
Competence requirements is a field that has reached broad recognition in areas such as the Logistics & Supply Chain Management (L&SCM). Yet, in the DES field, there is little research which emphasizes on competencies or prerequisites for DES application. The goal for this master thesis is to explore and analyse what competencies and prerequisites facilitates DES application. The focus of this master thesis is to investigate the competencies and prerequisites of three types of stakeholders involved in a simulation project; a buyer, a seller and a supplier. The findings reveal that certain competencies are applied more often than others of which some are not directly connected to the specific field, that DES application requires a combination of competencies and prerequisites in every step throughout a simulation study in order to be successful and that DES application is resource demanding. DES is a powerful tool that enables for accurate decision making in various processes. The appliance of DES is however very resource demanding and requires several areas of expertise such as statistics, systems analysis and project management.
