Based on previous research we can see that there is a flaw in the liability issue and how information about cyber bullying is spread, therefore our research contribute to how the phenomenon can be handled using strategic communication. The empirical material consists of quantitative surveys with qualitative complements in form of focus groups. The surveys were responded by 126 youths in the age of 12-16 years, from the school Enskilda Gymnasiet in Stockholm. We have tried to relate the different parts of cyber bullying, in terms of causes and consequences. The elements of social media, mental health and the liability issue have been analyzed in order to achieve a relevant result. We show that information is essential to prevent cyber bullying and that there are three major operators that the youngsters have confidence in; school, parents and the police. Our analysis indicates that there is a cavity in the spread of information and therefore highlights the importance of communication. The result leads us to the question of liability and who it is that parents today's youth. Our study highlights the importance of strategic communication and therefore points to the importance of teaching students from an early age about online ethics, to help them understand what consequences cyber bullying can lead to. The study has resulted in a number of suggestions for improvement regarding the liability question and cyber bullying, which shows that the school should be the primary source of information. Building on this a strategic communication plan for schools should be developed to clarify the information that should be informed. (Less)
Popular Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
