Abstract (Swedish)
(More)
(Less)

Abstract
This master thesis is divided into two parts. The first part deals with a general study of different energy storage systems. The second part deals with the possibility to store own-produced electricity from solar panels in a multifamily residential area.
The purpose of the first part was to collect information about different energy storage systems in a general study, and examine their different functions, current status and future prospects. The second part had the purpose to examine the most suitable energy storage method of today for a multifamily residential area and examine if daily or seasonal energy storage is economically profitable with a system of own-produced electricity.

The first part, the general study of energy storage is based on a literature study. The second part is based on a case study that included two multifamily houses in the district of Linero in the city of Lund. Data on the electricity production from solar panels was based on a solar panel system owned by Kraftringen Energi AB. Data for the use of property electricity was based own real values from Kraftringen’s database. Furthermore, the examination of the economical profitability was based on the pay-back method, where the economic life expectancy of the planned solar panels was set to 30 years, which worked as a maximum limit of profitability of the pay-back method.
The result from the general study on energy storage systems shows that energy storage installations in the world seem to increase and different energy storage methods has different prerequisites and properties. With different prerequisites and properties, energy storage systems must be chosen from intended type of application.
The most suitable energy storage system of today for a multifamily residential is based on battery storage. The results from the case study show that seasonal storage is not economically profitable, with the assumptions made in this work. The sensitivity analysis shows that a seasonal storage is to be economically profitable; certain requirements need to be fulfilled. On the other hand, daily energy storage can be economically profitable if the imputed rate of interest is a maximum of 4,5 %, with the assumptions made in this work. However, the sensitivity analysis shows that the investment of solar panels and batteries only become more profitable than only investing in solar panels under certain circumstances. (Less)
